Chapter 03 Water molecule and hydrogen bond

(1) Water's polarity
creates a slightly positive charge on hydrogen and a slightly negative charge on oxygen

(2) Hydrogen bonding in water
Hydrogen bond: Electrical attraction between weak positive and negative charges
Water Properties as a Solvent: Due to Polarity
hydration shell : layer formed by water molecules loosely coupled to ions in a solution

Water: Not combined with non-polarity materials, such as oil.

Meaning of wet water: Meaning that water is hydrogenated to the surface of an object. Results of adhesion.

cohesion : attraction between substances by hydrogen bond between water molecules

imbibition: the phenomenon of water attached to a surface moving porous materials such as wood or gelatin by absorption.
ex)The seeds that absorb the water come out of the shell.

surface tension: water cohesion, which is caused by the attraction between water molecules more strongly than the attraction between water and air in contact with the surface.
