Electronegativity

Rucete ✏ Chemistry In a Nutshell

Electronegativity | In a nutshell

1 The power to pull electrons that are shared by one atom in the convert bond.

2 Nonpolar The bond of two coupled atoms with an electron approaching one side with a distinct difference in their electronegativity.

3 Polar covalent  The bond of two coupled atoms with an electron approaching close to one atom because of a distinct difference in their electrocontegativity.

4 The periodic trend for electronegativity is similar to electron affinity.

5 Increases from bottom to top within a group

6 Increases from left to right across a period

7  The positively charged nucleus pulls the outer electrons.
--> The smaller atom is higher the electronegativity.

8  The noble gases do not follow periodic trends.

9 The Pauling method  one of several ways of showing electronegativity values.
