Condensation reaction and Hydrolysis reaction
Condensation reaction
A condensation reaction is a class of organic addition reaction which typically proceeds in a step-wise manner to produce the additional product, usually in equilibrium, and a water molecule (thus called condensation).
In carbohydrates, this reaction occurs when monosaccharides are composed of disaccharides or polysaccharides.
Hydrolysis reaction
The reverse of a condensation reaction in which two molecules join together into a larger one and eject a water molecule can be hydrolysis reactions. Hydrolysis then adds water to break down.
This phenomenon occurs when a disaccharides or polysaccharides is decomposed by something.
