The acid and the base created by the loss of the proton are called the conjugate acid and base pair.

According to Brønsted−Lowry 's principle of acids and bases:



Conjugate acid formed when an acid donates a proton (H+) to a base.

Similar to the above, conjugate base formed when an base get a proton to a acid.
