Kinds of Cellular Respiration

Biology In a Nutshell

There are 4 main kinds of cellular respiration.

- Glycolysis

Glycolysis [glucose +lysis(degradation)] is a metabolic pathway that transforms C6H12O6 glucose to pyruvate. The free energy released in this process is used to form ATP and NADH high-energy molecules.

It is happen in cytoplasm

- Link reaction [Pyruvate dehydrogenase]

In aerobic cellular respiration, pyruvate is decarboxylated. So, the remaining two-carbon molecule reacts with reduced coenzyme A and forms NADH + H.

It is occurred in matrix of mitochondria.

- Kreb’s Cycle [citric acid cycle (CAC), TCA cycle (tricarboxylic acid cycle)]

It releases stored energy by the oxidation of acetyl-CoA derived from carbohydrates, fats and proteins.

It happen in matrix of mitochondria.

-  Electron transport chain

It transfers potential energy to allow for the formation of ATP

It is happen inner membrane of mitochondria.
