Protein synthesis - Transcription
Biology In a Nutshell
- Transcription is the development of a copy of the mRNA (transcript) of the gene to be synthesized.
- Each of the four bases (U, A, C orG) on the mRNA is called Codon.
- It is regulated by the RNA polymerase enzyme.
+ A gene is a sequence of nucleotides as part of a DNA molecule, which codes
for a polypeptide. Also, as enzymes are proteins, their synthesis is controlled by DNA.
Step of Transcription
Initiation. RNA polymerase is bound to DNA
Elongation. Added nucleotides in the direction of 5’→ 3’. Next, growing strand of mRNA
Termination. The DNA terminator sequence is transcribed and serves as a signal to halt transcription.
