Nucleic Acid In a nutshell

1 Nucleic Acid

1 This is a nucleotides polymer encrypted with genetic information

2 Genetic information is stored in DNA(deoxyribonucleic acid), which is converted into RNA(ribonucleic acid) by cellular metabolic activity.

2 Nucleotides

1 It is connected by a phosphodiester bond and includes a three basic part.

2 There is phosphate group.

3 Five-carbon sugar : deoxyribose in DNA and ribose in RNA

4 One of four nitrogenous bases
→ adenine and guanine : double-ringed purines
→ thymine and cytosine : single-ringed pyrimidines

3 Difference between DNA and RNA

1 The five-carbon sugar constituting DNA is deoxyribose, while the five-carbon sugar constituting RNA is ribose.

2 Instead of thymine, the RNA is replaced by uracil, which takes one place in the nitrogenous base, which is paired with adenine.

3 DNA is a double helix structure and RNA is a single-stranded structure.
